Rendering!

I really enjoyed my recent drawing class exercise of trying various ways of rendering. I forgot how fun it was! I haven't used some of these techniques in a long time, and it was really liberating for me. It was super time consuming though :(. I didn't have enough time to finish this before I would fall even more behind on the exercises. We were to draw a flower, book, and cloth. The right flower actually bloomed before I could finish it, probably why it looks so goofy.

Perspective Exercise

Here are some perspective practices that I did for the class. I'm awful at it LOL. There's some 1 point, 2 point, and 3 point for you! I tried to furnish the inside of a room. I didn't realize how crooked the room drawing was until I took a picture of it. I'm a bit embarrassed LOL. BTW, I see I have a few followers. Thanks for looking :).

Acorn squash

Acorn squash done for a lighting assignment. This is an example, although not a great example, of double sourced light. I'm pretty frustrated with this, because it took a bit of time, and still didn't show the lighting well enough. I think I'm getting confused between the color of the object and the light.

For a Class

I'm taking an online art class, and the assignment was to put together some objects, toss a light on it, and draw it. I got some animal toys, an old shoe, and an apple I'm never gonna eat.

I don't think I got good light on it. I also don't think it was a good idea to use a black shoe, since it was a pain darkening the shoe and not making the giraffe look like a cut out on top of it.

Here's a little exercise I have invented for myself awhile back. It's a freehand ink on white. It allows me to just get marks down without being worried. I get to be as goofy as I want without fears of mistakes. I find I like to draw animals a lot in these.

Urfa

There was an online contest to mourn the death of a videogame game character. His name was Urf, and he was a warrior manatee. I decided to enter with this drawing of Urf's daughter, Urfa, mourning her fathers death. The contest was only 24 hours long, so I didn't have much time between that and work. There's a lot of stiff competition! Wish me luck.

I am a cute tapir! I posed for this drawing and even though my eyes have been cartoonized, that's what my expression is!

It's and Eland! I drew this from a distance at the SF Zoo. Too bad I couldn't see the feet very well. I also get shy when I draw in the public. I tend to sketch as fast as I can when no one is around.

If you wanna find the real eland, he's near the lion/tiger den. He mocks them with his tasty rump and large roaming space that lacks electric wires.

Hello my little octopus friend! Don't you think your tentacles are too small? What will you grasp with them? Maybe you just want a little hug. A little squeeze in the head, or even just a pat? Just don't be sad!

This was a done a few months ago, while Michael was making homemade pizza. mmmm! These tomatoes were turned into a tasty sauce.

The soft light shone on them gently, and I had the urge to grab a sketch before I ate them. Unfortunately, as the sun is, the light didn't stay on them long enough to provide me consistent shadows.

I've been playing a lot of League of Legends, and so I'm back on my fan art kick for a bit. This is Tristana, the Megling Gunner. It's currently in its early stages, I plan to fill her out a bit and post the finished product later.

This was my second attempt at Tristana fan art. Drawing a cute gnome is not an easy task for me. I've never drawn one before, and the lack of neck, large head, and strange proportions threw me off more than I expected. Exaggerations need to be cute, and the balancing act was frustrating.

Fluffy birdy! I couldn't get the expression on the eyes right, but he had a more stern but adorable look in his eyes. Curious, but cautious.

Here's a picture of a baby kiwi bird I drew. The hair is much more coarse than an adults (from what I can see). The baby lacks the roundness the adult has, and too me is somewhat less cute. I had a difficult time effectively making it look as hairy as it was.

Here's a pink carnation I drew almost a year ago. I know the carnation isn't the most glamorous of flowers, but I'm rather fond of them because they are sturdy (a BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!), and lovely. Upon closer examination, the folds and crinkles of the pedals make them a graceful flower. You don't have to be a delicate flower to be beautiful ;).

Snakes????

I drew a quick sketch of a cobra, per my boyfriend's request. We are both fans of animals, and starting off with a snake was a good idea. It seems simple enough, right? But then I really got to look at the intricacies of a cobra and see the scales and how it spreads its hood. I'm going to have to spend a bit more time on the cobra, and maybe go to the library for some snake books.

Why are snake eyes so naturally frightening? I found cobra images from Google, and I'm not exaggerating how mean their eyes look.

I use to have a scanner, but recently got rid of it during a move. I'm taking digital pictures of my drawings with a Cannon PowerShot SD450. This will have to do for now.

My Drawing Project

Being my first blog post, I'm rather nervous and giddy about this endeavor. I don't plan or expect many followers, so anyone reading this is a surprise to me. This blog is mainly a way to chronicle my attempts to start drawing again. I hope that vocalizing frustrations and joys as well as sharing my product will help keep me motivated to draw. I don't want to pay a kajillion dollars at an art school, nor can I afford becoming a full time student again. I think that the internet is the cheapest medium of sharing and discussing my work with people interested.

Of course there are many blogs out there with various interesting projects, such as cooking French food in a filthy kitchen. I'm not claiming originality, but hopefully I can entertain someone with some drawings and writing.
